On the 9th of September, I was back at Carnegie Hall once again - but this time to work with a company I hadn’t photographed before: Dalgety Players. They were performing High School Musical, and I was thrilled to be asked to capture the production.
A New Chapter for Dalgety Players
Up until recently, Dalgety Players have been known primarily for their plays rather than musicals, so this show was part of an exciting new chapter for the company. High School Musical is one of those titles that brings instant smiles - full of catchy songs, iconic dance routines, and vibrant characters that everyone recognises.
Growing up, the High School Musical films were very much a guilty pleasure of mine, which definitely helped when it came to photographing the show. Knowing when those big character moments, dance numbers, and costume changes were coming made it much easier to anticipate and capture them perfectly.
Capturing the Energy and Iconic Moments
From start to finish, the young cast were fantastic. Their enthusiasm and energy lit up the stage - every song, every routine, every expression felt alive and full of heart. The costumes were spot-on, matching the colourful, upbeat tone of the show and paying tribute to the film’s original style.
With such an iconic story, it was important to capture all those recognisable scenes and moments - from Troy and Gabriella’s duets to the energetic ensemble numbers that had audiences clapping along. I’m delighted with how the final images turned out; they really showcase the talent and passion of the cast and crew.
Fast Turnaround, Lasting Impact
As always, I prioritised a quick delivery for the company. Within 24 hours, I provided up to 20 preview images for use on social media and on the theatre’s print display boards, helping to build excitement and give audiences a flavour of what to expect when they arrived.
The full gallery of production photos was then delivered within two weeks of the show. I know how important it is for amateur and community theatre groups to have their photos quickly - especially when the performance run only lasts a week. That’s why I always make sure to deliver high-quality images fast, so companies can make the most of them while the show is still fresh in everyone’s minds.
A Fantastic First Collaboration
It was an absolute pleasure working with Dalgety Players, and I’m so glad to have captured one of their first musical productions. The show was full of colour, fun, and pure Disney-style joy - a perfect reminder of why I love theatre photography.
