KAOS presents Sunshine On Leith

Production Photography at the Adam Smith Theatre

On Monday the 10th of November 2025, I was back once again at the Adam Smith Theatre to capture production photography for Sunshine on Leith, performed by Kirkcaldy Amateur Operatic Society. I’ve photographed several shows for the company over the years, so it’s always a pleasure when they ask me back - especially for a production that means so much to me personally.

Photographing a Show I Know Inside Out

Sunshine on Leith is a show I’ve actually performed in myself, alongside my wife, where we played Davy and Yvonne. Because of that, I know the music, story beats, and emotional high points incredibly well. This makes a huge difference when photographing live theatre. Being able to anticipate what’s coming next allows me to be in exactly the right place at the right time - ready to capture key moments, relationships between characters, and the emotion that drives the story forward.

Fast Turnaround for Amateur Theatre

As with all my theatre work, turnaround time is a top priority, particularly for amateur companies whose runs can be much shorter than professional or touring productions.

For this show, I delivered:

  • 20 fully edited images within 24 hours for social media and print display in the theatre
  • The full gallery within seven days, allowing the company to promote the show while audiences were still attending

This quick delivery ensures companies can maximise engagement, publicity, and ticket sales during their run.

Behind-the-Scenes POV Content

Alongside the production photography, I also captured a POV video using a GoPro mounted to my hat while shooting. I regularly use this footage on TikTok and Instagram to give people a genuine behind-the-scenes look at what it’s like to photograph a live theatre production - from my perspective in the auditorium.

If you’re curious about how I work in real time or want to see what it’s actually like to have me in the room during a show, you can find all of that content over on my social media platforms.

Always a Pleasure to Return

It was brilliant to be back working with Kirkcaldy Amateur Operatic Society again, and Sunshine on Leith was a joy to capture - full of heart, energy, and powerful storytelling. I’m always grateful when companies trust me to visually document their productions, and I look forward to working with them again in the future.
