'Mothers' - Edinburgh Festival Fringe
This June, I headed through to Edinburgh for a promotional theatre photography session with the brilliant team at Encapulus Productions. They’re gearing up for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe this August with their new show Mothers, and I was brought on board to help create strong, character-led visuals for their marketing campaign.
The connection came through a recent Fringe project I worked on — someone from that team kindly recommended me, and I was absolutely delighted to be asked. It’s always a pleasure to collaborate with creative, passionate companies preparing to share their work on one of the biggest stages in the world.
The goal for this Fringe photography session was to capture impactful, individual portraits of the show's key characters — each image needed to reflect the essence of that character’s personality and role within the story. We wanted the photos to feel bold, expressive, and rich in narrative — the kind of visuals that would stand out on social media, in printed programs, and even on the promotional banners lining Princes Street in the lead-up to the Fringe.
We had a fantastic time during the shoot — lots of laughs, spontaneous ideas, and creative freedom. The cast were brilliant to work with, and I think we achieved something really special. Each character image tells a mini-story, offering a glimpse into the themes and emotional depth of Mothers.
