Capturing a Spooktacular Family Event in Glenrothes
On Saturday the 25th of October, I spent a couple of hours at the Kingdom Shopping Centre in Glenrothes, photographing a free Halloween event for children. It was a lively, colourful afternoon full of creativity, excitement, and plenty of smiling faces — exactly the kind of event that’s a joy to capture.
Photographing Events in a Challenging Space
The event took place in a small area within the centre of the shopping mall, which presented a couple of interesting challenges. Space was limited, and lighting was entirely out of my control — something that’s fairly common with public indoor events. That said, adapting quickly to changing conditions is all part of event photography, and the atmosphere more than made up for any technical hurdles.
Because the event was open and free-flowing, families could come and go as they pleased, which created a really natural and relaxed environment. From a photography point of view, this made it easy to tell the story of the day as it unfolded.
Colour, Creativity, and Happy Faces
There were loads of brilliant activities for the children to get involved in, including potion making, wand designing, and creating their own Halloween hats. These hands-on activities gave me plenty of opportunities to capture bright colours, expressive faces, and genuine moments of joy as the kids threw themselves into the fun.
Events like this are perfect for candid photography — there’s no posing, no pressure, just children enjoying themselves and parents soaking up the atmosphere. Those authentic moments are always the most powerful ones to look back on.
Quick Turnaround for Event Coverage
All of the final images were delivered within a week of the event, ensuring the organisers could share the photos while the excitement was still fresh. Fast turnaround is something I always prioritise for community and public events, as it allows organisers to make the most of their imagery for social media, promotion, and future marketing.
It was great to be part of such a fun, inclusive event at the Kingdom Shopping Centre, and I loved capturing the Halloween spirit in action.
