Reelgood Ceilidh Band Filming
Ceilidh Band Promo Video Filming in Glasgow
December also saw me head through to Glasgow to film promotional content for The Real Good Ceilidh Band - a project that had been in the making for around six months. Coordinating diaries, finding a suitable venue, and ensuring everyone was available took time, but it was well worth the wait when everything finally came together.
A Carefully Planned Filming Night
We filmed at a small Glasgow venue where the band were hosting a live ceilidh with a full dancefloor, creating the perfect atmosphere for capturing both performance and audience energy. My brief was to create a main showreel video for the band, along with multiple social media teasers and promotional images they could use across their platforms.
It was a busy evening from start to finish. I arrived just over an hour before guests to allow time for setup, and before anyone entered the venue, we recorded the band’s pre-recorded track five times. This gave me a wide range of angles, focal lengths, and performance options to work with, allowing me to cut together a dynamic and engaging main reel that truly represents their sound and energy.
Capturing Energy & Musical Detail
Throughout the night, I worked with two very different filming approaches. One camera was handheld, which I used primarily to capture the dancing, reactions, and atmosphere of the ceilidh. This helped create that immersive, energetic feeling - as if the viewer is right there in the middle of the action.
The second camera was mounted on a gimbal, allowing for smoother, more controlled shots of the band and guests. This was perfect for highlighting the skill, musicianship, and detail in their playing, giving the final edit a strong balance between performance and crowd interaction.
Creative Music Video Production
Projects like this are always incredibly exciting, as they offer a lot of creative freedom. Music promo videos are about more than just documenting what happens - they’re about capturing the essence and personality of the band, and creating something that feels true to who they are.
I’m delighted to say that The Real Good Ceilidh Band were really pleased with the final videos, and I know they’ll soon be featuring them on their new website and across their social media channels. It was a brilliant project, and I’m looking forward to creating more music-focused content like this in the future.
