On the 6th of September, I had the absolute privilege of capturing wedding videography for Richard and Ayla at the stunning Dunkeld House Hotel in Perthshire, Scotland. This was an extra special one for me, as I work with Richard at Dundee Rep and Scottish Dance Theatre, so when he asked me to film his wedding, I couldn’t have been more excited.
I was joined on the day by my brother Callum, who supported me as second shooter, and we had the pleasure of working alongside award-winning wedding photographer Ian Struthers, who was incredibly generous with advice throughout the day.
A Full Day of Beautiful Moments
Richard and Ayla booked my Full Day Videography Package, which provides up to 10 hours of coverage - from morning preparations all the way through to the first dance. But since Richard is a good friend, we stayed on a little longer to capture a few extra dances from their evening reception too and provided some extra deliverables as well!
Their package included a three to six minute highlight film, complete ceremony and speeches coverage, and even a one to two hour documentary film - an extra I included from my premium The Works package as a special gift for them.
Behind the Scenes
Filming at Dunkeld House Hotel was an absolute dream. The venue sits right on the River Tay and offers breathtaking scenery that made the perfect backdrop for drone footage and cinematic moments.
To make sure we captured every angle, we set up three cameras for the ceremony and carefully miked up the groom, best man, father of the bride, and celebrant to ensure professional-quality sound throughout. For everything else, I worked handheld and on a gimbal, while Callum covered additional shots and candid B-roll to round out the story.
One of the most memorable parts of the day was filming Richard and Ayla during their couple photo session. While they were driven back in a beautiful car by Ayla’s dad, I sat in the boot of the photographer’s car with my gimbal to film them from the front - capturing some truly unique, cinematic footage as the car wound its way through the Perthshire countryside.
A Day to Remember
From the emotional ceremony to the hilarious speeches and heartfelt moments between Ayla and her gran, the whole day was filled with love, laughter, and warmth. I was thrilled with how everything came together - clear audio, stunning visuals, and unforgettable memories for the couple to relive again and again.
Richard and Ayla’s wedding was such a joy to be part of, and it reminded me why I absolutely love what I do - capturing life’s most special days so people can treasure them forever.
