Primary School Photography in Fife
Last week, I had the pleasure of photographing the pupils and staff of St Patrick’s Roman Catholic Primary School in Lochgelly. I arrived bright and early — about quarter to eight — to set up my equipment and backdrop before the school day began. With an hour to get everything ready, there was just enough time to fine-tune the lighting and make sure the setup was perfect.
Setting the Scene
For this shoot, the school requested a clean white backdrop, which gives a fresh and timeless look to the portraits. I can, of course, provide a range of backdrop options depending on the style the school prefers — from a dramatic black background for a more studio-style finish, to the classic blue that many schools still love for their traditional look.
A Well-Organised Morning
The session ran smoothly thanks to the brilliant support of parent volunteers and some very responsible Primary 7 helpers, who did a fantastic job guiding each class to the hall. Their help made it possible to keep things moving efficiently — once one class finished, the next was ready to go, and siblings were brought down together for their family pairings.
We began with Primary 1, pairing them with their brothers or sisters, then worked our way up through each year group. In total, around 200 pupils were photographed over the course of four hours, with just a quick 15-minute break in the middle. The children were fantastic — full of smiles, personality, and patience!
