Capturing Unforgettable Prom Moments at Pratis Barns
On Wednesday 2nd July, I had the fantastic opportunity to photograph the prom night at Waid Academy in Fife, held at the stunning Pratis Barns. Although I was only called to cover this special event on the Monday before, I was thrilled to step in at the last minute and capture these memorable moments.
Having recently photographed my old high school, Balwearie, at the Dean Park Hotel in Kirkcaldy, I was excited to return to the world of school proms. This shoot was particularly meaningful, as it was deeply connected to my family - my Dad dedicated his career to education and spent many years at both Waid Academy and Balwearie High School.
The evening was packed with energy from the moment the young people arrived. For just over two hours, I captured their arrival, including some arriving in a luxurious Rolls Royce and others in vintage cars that added a touch of glamour to the night. I also snapped plenty of formal portraits of students with their parents, creating timeless keepsakes of this milestone.
Inside the venue, I took group photos and applied flash photography techniques to create dynamic shots against a variety of backdrops. The lighting and atmosphere inside Pratis Barns offered plenty of creative opportunities to craft vibrant, memorable images that truly celebrate the graduates' achievements.
